How quickly we forget

I haven't mentioned this on here yet, but most everyone who knows me, knows I babysit for a teacher at the kids' school. He's only about 14 weeks old, and he's very sweet. I am learning how much I've forgotten about having a baby since 8 years ago when I had my last one.

Case-in-point...yesterday, I was out and it was time to feed the baby. My car was also running on fumes. So I think to myself, well, I'm already out, and he's being pretty happy...I'll hurry and get the gas before I head home. I got my gas (after searching for an acceptable price to pay {never found one, by the way}) and went home.

By the time we got home, the baby was very sad and wanted out of his carseat. I got him out and was holding him while I started getting his bottle. Then I thought to myself...oh, I just pumped gas, I should wash my hands. So I go to the sink. Now, here's the pickle...I'm holding a new, still pretty floppy baby, and I need to wash both hands. I think to myself...I used my right hand to pump the gas, maybe if I just wash my right hand...So, I start washing my right hand. Then I think...I should probably just wash both, so I lather up my left hand (holding it out as far away from baby as possible) and rinse off my right. Now my right hand is wet, my left hand is wet and soapy, and I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to rinse it off without dropping the baby in the sink.

During this whole ordeal, I was thinking...I gotta get a picture so I can blog this. Well, seeing as everyone else was gone, and we've already determined my hands were more than occupied, there's no picture.

I did finally get both hands clean and baby fed and put to bed. But I have to admit, it kinda shook my confidence in being babysitter supreme to have such a little thing throw me off. Maybe I just should have washed my hands BEFORE I got the baby out of the carseat.

Maybe next time....

Well, if you were like the lady with no arms, you could have washed your feet with your hands. . .oh, nevermind, that doesn't work does it?!

I just like how you thought of blogging in the middle of all of that!

I am also glad you enjoyed my follow-through with my 7-year-old yesterday. I think I've started a revolution. My cyber-friend, Paige, used me as inspiration in her post today.

GO FOLLOWING THROUGH WITH OUR EMPTY THREATS, GO!

That is hilarious! I Love it! I love that once you start this blogging thing all you can think about in every situation, "how can I put this into a blog?" I think the obsession w/ that is worse than seeing a picture and saying "how can I scrap that into a page?" at least it is worse for me, maybe because blogging can be more immediate. anyway now that I have put 2 ginormous comments here, I will just shut it!!
